NYSCASA tracks state and federal legislation around the use of DNA as part of the 2008-2010 DNA Training Initiative funded by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services. Technological advances are occurring with such frequency that is difficult to track appropriate applications to criminal justice systems. Proposed legislation needs careful consideration as it is being implemented so it will not cause unintended consequences for victims, survivors and their families even as it is being used in courtrooms to assist the prosecution of their cases.
