Weaving a World Without Violence: Transformative Possibilities  — 2017 Sexual Assault Prevention and Intervention Conference

NYSCASA, in partnership with Holding Our Own, Inc. and the Albany Social Justice Center, is seeking workshop proposals for a multi-day, multi-track, statewide conference to be held on September 14-16, 2017 in Albany, NY. We anticipate approximately 200-300 conference attendees, consisting of leaders, organizers, and professionals from the advocacy, health care, mental health, community organizing, criminal justice, campus, law enforcement, and human services fields.

Weaving a World Without Violence: Transformative Possibilities invites attendees to think critically about approaches to ending sexual violence; to reimagine current mainstream responses, programs, and policies from a transformative justice lens; and to explore grassroots community alternatives to sexual violence intervention and prevention. Please consider sharing your expertise, success stories, models, research, best practices, testimony, etc.!

We encourage workshop proposals related to the following areas of focus:

  • Beyond Programs and Prisons: Community alternatives and thinking beyond the system to address sexual violence and build community accountability
  • Institutional Advocacy: Challenging frameworks, interrupting harm, and creating alliances in institutional settings
  • All or None: Uplifting the agency, knowledge, and needs of marginalized communities and identities and building a stronger anti-violence movement
  • Self Care to Community Care: Nourishing and sustaining communities that can prevent sexual violence and heal trauma

Your workshop proposal should include:

  • Name and contact information for presenter(s)
  • Title of proposed workshop
  • Intended audience(s) for workshop
  • Level of workshop (advanced, intermediate, beginner)
  • Learning objectives for workshop
  • Outline for workshop
  • Workshop description/abstract (no more than 200 words please)
  • Audiovisual needs
  • Your request for compensation (NYSCASA can support a limited number of speaker fees and related travel costs)
  • Presenter biography (no more than 200 words please)
  • Resume of presenter(s)

Presenters of accepted proposals will be notified by July 31, 2017.
