About This Project

The New York State Coalition Against Sexual Assault hosted the Discriminatory Student Discipline Policies and Gender Violence webinar on November 2, 2016.

Sexual trauma should never pose an obstacle to a student’s opportunity to learn. Yet many girls of color who experience gender violence face unconscionable barriers in the classroom, including a lack of access to counseling, suspensions for nonconsensual sexual conduct, and harsh disciplinary responses to symptoms of their trauma. This webinar discusses the problem and how students and their caretakers can advocate for safer, more equitable schools.

Presenters: Alexandra Brodsky, Skadden Fellow at the National Women’s Law Center Khadija Hudson, Community Organizer at Girls for Gender Equity Kate McDonough, Director of Organizing at Girls for Gender Equity
