04 Mar Cultural Safety Training for Law Enforcement and Court Personnel (Akwesasne)
From 8:00 am until 4:30 PM
At Seven Dancers Coalition
352 State Route 37, Akwesasne, NY 13655
Presented by Seven Dancers Coalition
The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Police and the Seven Dancers Coalition are joining together to offer an array of topics relevant to ensuring cultural safety when working with community members of our nations. This invite is to both honor the work you do and purposely and carefully assist you by giving you the tools that you can use in your work. This gesture is offered to armor you with cultural awareness and safety to ensure your confidence and competency with our families. We value you and your agency and would like to extend this very precious gift to you. The two-day training will take place on March 12th & 13th 2020, with meals provided.
This event is designed to educate and familiarize you with the history and traditions of our people. Before you begin your work with survivors of trauma from our territory we wanted to make sure you had the foundation to provide an informed conclusion of our cases along with anything you may need from our agencies.
I have attached a two-day agenda packed full of experts from our territory who will help set the stage for today's cases. You will be taken back to the beginning of our people with the creation story, other oral traditional stories, and the breakdown of our society. Then, you will be shown the importance of resiliency and healing. We have included a Sweat lodge ceremony and encourage you to participate to get the full experience.
I hope you will honor us with your participation and look forward to talking with you.
