Communities, including school communities, play an important role in shaping the mental wellbeing and safety of young people. As a new semester starts and the COVID-19 pandemic continues, mental health and violence prevention practitioners are finding ways to address shared risk and protective factors in a way that prioritizes enriching and empowering experiences for young people. This web conference will feature community-based leaders in San Diego, CA and school-based advocates in Multnomah County, OR who are creating
OBJECTIVES:
- Describe the connection between youth mental wellbeing and preventing sexual and dating violence, especially within the context of distressed school and social environments exacerbated by COVID-19.
- Identify strategies that authentically engage young people that integrate violence prevention into a holistic approach for mental wellbeing.
- Discuss best practices and opportunities to partner with young leaders in a way that honors their vision of how their environment can foster mental health and safety from violence.
