The New York State Office of Mental Health is hosting a two-day Symposium bringing together researchers, policy decision makers, mental health clinicians, and front-line workers. The goal is to raise the bar on concrete strategies to create mental health equity for all New Yorkers. The NYS Office of Mental Health believes everyone should have an equal opportunity for mental wellness. This requires removing obstacles and implementing services and policies aimed at reducing disparities.
Keynote Speaker
Dior Vargas is the creator of the People of Color and Mental Illness Photo Project, a response to the invisibility of people of color in the media representation of mental illness. She is also the editor of The Color of My Mind, a photo essay book based on the photo project. She tours the country giving keynotes, hosting workshops, and speaking on panels. Her work and insight has been covered in media outlets such as The New York Times, Forbes, Newsweek, and NBC News Latino. Dior is the recipient of numerous awards, including The White House Champion of Change for Disability Advocacy Across Generations. She holds a Master of Public Health from NYU's College of Global Public Health.
